New ASM Front Aero Development

July 26, 2010 by Aaron in ASM

To further enhance the competitiveness of ASM Car No.1, ASM has developed a new front bumper to decrease weight and increase aerodynamic efficiency. The new front bumper incorporates the ASM Front Lip -07 and Front Aero Fender -04 extensions into a one-piece design to reduce the need for mounting hardware and additional attachment points which add unnecessary weight to the front of the car. Reducing front end weight is critical in maintaining weight balance of the car because most of the weight reduction of the car comes from the rear. The overall length of the new front bumper still allows the car to meet existing Japanese inspection certificate dimensions so the car will still remain street legal and capable of road use. However, the angle of the lip has been redesigned to improve downforce and increase the diffuser effect in the front. The main center opening has also been opened up by 5mm to increase the cooling effect of the radiator. Construction will be enhanced dry carbon for a high level of rigidity and a further decrease in weight.

For further front end weight savings, ASM has produced a bonnet without the frame, integrated rain channels, and latch for additional weight savings. The hood remains the same design as the Aero Bonnet -04 but has a greater ability to draw hot air out of the engine bay and aid cooling efficiency. The hood will also be produced in enhance dry carbon which is lighter and stronger than the standard dry carbon produced by ASM. That is a remarkable considering ASM’s dry carbon is already by far the lightest and strongest production carbon part available for consumer aftermarket parts.

The hood is already in stock and ready for shipping. The bumper will be a few months before production pieces are ready.

That is insane. Any ideas when it might possibly be released for production?

ASM Tensioner and Idler Pulleys

July 13, 2010 by Aaron in ASM

The TODA pulley set has been a popular item in Japan because they reduce the rotating burden on the engine to improve acceleration and performance. Not only has TODA reduced the overall weight (and inertia) of the crank, water pump, and alternator pulleys but they have also modified the alternator pulley ratio to take advantage of more sporty use. Many of ASM’s customers requested that TODA make the matching tensioner and idler pulleys to match but TODA felt that the small benefit doesn’t outweigh the added costs of the extra 2 pieces. However, ASM’s philosophy doesn’t include cost as a factor so they decided to produce the 2 extra pulleys to complement the TODA kit and satisfy their customers’ demands. The weight reduction of the 2 pulleys is a mere 280grams but the ASM pulleys cosmetically complete the TODA kit and add a small performance benefit.

TODA Racing F20C/K20A Valve Spring Easy Changer

July 9, 2010 by Aaron in Daily Happenings, S2000 #2

To replace the damaged valve spring retainer on our S2000 #2 demo car, we will be using theTODA Valve Spring Easy Changer. Changing the F20C retainer to F22C retainers are a must for any AP1 owner. The AP1 retainers are known to fail very often. TODA’s Valve Spring Easy Changer allows replacement of the valve springs and retainers without removable of the head. This minimizes the risk of warping the head during removal and requiring a re-deck of the head surface.

July 6, 2010 by Aaron in Daily Happenings

We hosted another small Dent Day Meet this past Saturday. Being the day before July 4th, not a lot of people showed up but we constantly get customers asking us to host another Dent Day Meet we decided to do one anyways. Mike from Ultimate Dent Removal always does a good job for us and it turned out to be a nice gathering on a lazy Saturday afternoon.
