The Fastest Car On Earth (Theoretically)

October 28, 2010 by Aaron in Random

Gran Turismo has been teasing the Red Bull X1 for weeks now and has finally released the full specs and video of this virtual car today. Sebastian Vettel managed a 1’04.853 on the Nurburgring GP Course, compared to the lap record set by Michael Schumacher in 2004 with a time of 1’20.468. People have been toying with the idea of a no-regulation all out race car for years and there have been a couple attempts, most recently the Caparo T1, which shows some design similarities to the Red Bull X1. The biggest difference is of course “Fan Car” technology where the car has a big fan that forces air out underneath the car to “turbocharge” the diffuser effect. It’s been tested and proven in real world application in the past but has been quickly banned for safety reasons due to it’s ability to achieve extreme speeds. With this technology the car can achieve 8.75 G’s! That’s more than most humans can resist. I really hope someone ponies up the cash to build this thing. Come on, the hard part’s done, just gotta assemble it now!

Some of the most significant number are:
1500ps, V6 Twin Turbo, top speed 450+km/h (279.6mph)
0-60: 1.4s, 0-120: 2.8s, 0-200: 6.1s
545 kg (1201 lbs)
8.25 G cornering

ASM GT-10 Fuji Test

October 27, 2010 by Aaron in ASM

The GT-10 specification ASM Car No.1 visited Fuji Motor Speedway for a shakedown test of new components and settings. As usually Hiroki Kato was behind the wheel in poor cold and rainy conditions. The main test items were the following:

1. Front camber and lowered height check.
In previous runnings the front tire was making contact with the inner chassis so ride height had to be raised for clearance issues. After frame modifications a lower ride height and more camber was able to be achieved.

2. Detachable hood louver comparison test.
The test was inconclusive due to poor weathers conditions. However, there was not a significant different when the vent was removed.

3. Front inner fender shade change.
To more effectively remove air from the air outlet of the front fender, aluminum inner fenders were constructed. In addition, part of the duct was removed to compare performance. A performance benefit was achieved by doing this, removing the duct cover produced additional downforce.

4. Review of aerodynamic balance.
The poor weather conditions combined with the use of used RE-11 tires produced inconclusive results. Dry weather running with new tires will be required for a proper analysis of aero balance.

5. New engine.
For the first time running of the new engine, power was set at 298 hp. With the new TODA dry carbon induction box attached, the sound of the new engine is better.

Driver: Hiroki Kato
Chief Engineer: Sakagami (ASM)
Mechanic: Ooki (ASM), Maruta (ASM)
Engine: Yano (TODA Racing)

Act Two – Recaro RS-G ASM Limited Ruby

October 14, 2010 by Aaron in ASM

Immediately following the prototype introduction of the Recaro SR-7 ASM Limited Ruby, the ever popular RS-G prototype is released in similar ASM Limited Ruby colors. The RS-G has become one of the most popular Recaro Japan seats due to its narrow shape and ability to fit into nearly every vehicle application without compromise. As with the SR-7 ASM Limited Ruby, the RS-G ASM Limited Ruby features a combination of materials and colors to create a unique seat that stands out among the rest. Main features are the use of genuine Alcantara on the side bolsters where durability and grip is important. Moving inward, perforated EDEL red backed leather is used for areas that contact the skin for increased comfort. Lastly, the center section remains the highly effective shining silver mesh that has breath-ability to keep the driver cool and comfortable. As always, red double stitching is used to highlight the borders of the seat and as a change to traditional ASM Limited seats, the Recaro logo is now in white stitching with the addition of an ASM logo in the center.

Recaro RS-G ASM Limited Ruby Seat
USA MSRP $2749.99
Now available for pre-order for early 2011 delivery.
