Pagani vs Lamborghini: NFS Hot Pursuit Commercial

November 19, 2010 by Aaron in Random

What a cool commercial. A Pagani and Lambo battling in the Italian Alps on a road that looks to be the inspiration of one of the Gran Turismo (coming out in 5 days) courses.

The Fastest Car On Earth (Theoretically)

October 28, 2010 by Aaron in Random

Gran Turismo has been teasing the Red Bull X1 for weeks now and has finally released the full specs and video of this virtual car today. Sebastian Vettel managed a 1’04.853 on the Nurburgring GP Course, compared to the lap record set by Michael Schumacher in 2004 with a time of 1’20.468. People have been toying with the idea of a no-regulation all out race car for years and there have been a couple attempts, most recently the Caparo T1, which shows some design similarities to the Red Bull X1. The biggest difference is of course “Fan Car” technology where the car has a big fan that forces air out underneath the car to “turbocharge” the diffuser effect. It’s been tested and proven in real world application in the past but has been quickly banned for safety reasons due to it’s ability to achieve extreme speeds. With this technology the car can achieve 8.75 G’s! That’s more than most humans can resist. I really hope someone ponies up the cash to build this thing. Come on, the hard part’s done, just gotta assemble it now!

Some of the most significant number are:
1500ps, V6 Twin Turbo, top speed 450+km/h (279.6mph)
0-60: 1.4s, 0-120: 2.8s, 0-200: 6.1s
545 kg (1201 lbs)
8.25 G cornering

Origami Graduates

August 5, 2010 by Aaron in Random

Papercraft cars has been a popular hobby in Japan for some time now as you can download paper templates from many manufacturers’ websites and construct your own paper scale model of your favorite car. Epson Japan has taken this one step further and utilized their giant printers to create a full 1:1 scale model of the Epson sponsored SuperGT NSX. This isn’t current news because it was debuted at Tokyo Auto Salon earlier this year but I just discovered the build pics and thought it was worth a second look.

Day In LA

May 24, 2010 by Aaron in Random

Living in Orange County, CA we tend to only venture to the pothole filled streets of LA when to risk rim and bumper damage when we really have to but sometimes it’s nice to make the trip for a change of scenery with some culture and good eats.

In the morning, I visited the Hollyhock House in East Hollywood, a Frank Lloyd Wright designed home built in 1922 for oil heiress Aline Barnsdall. It sits on top a hill in the middle of the city overlooking much of LA with a clear view of the the Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood sign, that’s one prime piece of real estate.

In the afternoon, spent a couple hours walking the Peterson Automotive Museum and taking note of some interesting exhibits.

I wonder what the guy is doing back there…

One happy car!

Looks like a scene straight out of the Rocketeer.

Odd. Just odd.

The start of the tuning industry.

Maybe Gordan Murray’s inspiration for the McLaren F1?

Some modern classic roadsters from local SoCal builders.

Built to scale of a 8ft tall human. A very cool design.

Last but not least, some of my cousin’s work on display from her stint at The Art Center of Design in Pasadena.

Wouldn’t be a trip to LA without a stop on the way home for some treats and Shabu Shabu for dinner.
